OpenTensile® — Coming Soon

Next-Gen, Modular Mechanical Test Systems.

OpenTensile® is a modular mechanical testing platform that's configurable, compact, straightforward to use. Currently in development, it’s being built to make in-house mechanical testing viable and affordable for SMEs, startups, university labs, and independent makers and workshops.

Supported via

*We’re currently onboarding a small number of pilot partners for OpenTensile®. Machine availability is limited, so we prioritise organisations with real near-term testing needs and strong experience with manufacturing, materials characterisation, and mechanical testing.

OpenTensile technical overview

Initial specification targets

Our Mk1 machine is designed for polymer and composite materials testing, and can be easily configured to test coupons (under various loading configurations) and sub-components.

  • Loading capabilities: ~10 kN (configuration-dependent)
  • Fixtures / grips: interchangeable fixture ecosystem to suit varied specimen geometries
  • Data capture: structured exports with metadata (units, sampling, calibration references)
  • Footprint: compact benchtop form factor to suit small labs and workshops

How pilots run

Our pilots aim to be mutually beneficial for our partners and EngineeringPals. The standard process is provided below:

  • Define: why you need the tester, the intended use-case, and the specific tests that must be supported (specimen types, load cases, constraints, success criteria).
  • Plan: test matrix, NDA/IP terms, and the data analysis strategy (channels, processing, reporting format).
  • Deliver: we ship the pilot unit to you as a boxed kit, then run a setup meeting to walk through the hardware build, fixtures, software workflow, and data export.
  • Review: after the pilot, we review result quality and usability, then define improvements and next steps (hardware, fixtures, firmware/software, documentation).

FAQs

FAQs

OpenTensile® is a modular mechanical testing platform, currently in development. It’s designed to enable repeatable, accurate mechanical testing in a compact, configurable system—without the footprint or overhead typical of legacy universal testing machines.
Engineering teams that need reliable mechanical test capability for development, validation, or QA—particularly SMEs, R&D groups, and independent makers.
We’re targeting a ~10 kN class platform, depending on configuration and safety factors. We’ll publish configuration-specific ratings once these are finalised.
The initial focus is coupon-level tensile, compression, and 3/4-point bending tests.
Modularity is delivered through standardised mechanical and electrical interfaces, including core structural frame and modular electronic control system, with interchangeable fixtures and accessory modules.
Calibration and traceability are an essential part of the development plan. We strive to supply very clear documentation, so machine operation and data-processing is simple and quick for users from all technical backgrounds.
We are targeting pilot partner availability from Q3 2026, with commercial availability following once pilots have validated repeatability, usability, and data quality.
Yes. If you share your specimen type, load range, fixture needs, throughput, and what “success” looks like, we can tell you whether it is a fit and how we could adapt our designs to support it.
